Belfast Political Tour From Dublin

For over 30 years a conflict dominated international news and it affected all aspects of life for the people of Northern Ireland.

Travelling through the Boyne Valley to the medieval town of Carlingford with its impressive Norman castle, nestled at the base of the Cooley Mountains with stunning views across the bay of the Mountains of Mourne we will hear the stories of conflicts and Conquests from the arrivals of The Normans, Prince William of Orange up to the modern-day conflict.

On this tour we examine some of the the events that took place and the difference between the conflict in the city of Belfast and the rural areas like South Armagh, known by the media as ‘Bandit Country’, so named because the might of the British Army was prevented from using the roads due to attacks by the IRA. As we travel through the small local villages in the rolling hills of ‘Bandit Country’ it’s hard to fathom that this area was once a time of road side IEDs, helicopter attacks and kidnapping of security personal.

In Belfast ex political prisoners from both communities will guide us through the areas they grew up in and were intimately involved in the troubles and spent time in jail for their beliefs. We invite you to hear first-hand accounts of this turbulent period of modern history, explore up close, on foot the world-famous murals of the Falls and Shankill Roads and understand the stories behind them. This is a 3 hour walking tour along both sides the Peace Walls of West Belfast, crossing through the gates that are closed nightly at the request of both communities.  Hear the Stories behind the artwork and and how the troubles effected the guides own families.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience living history.
